BC High School Provincial Swimming Championships:
A number of NWRSC swimmer’s hit the water this past weekend at Watermania in Richmond for the BC High School Provincial Swimming Championships. Representing Wellington Secondary, NDSS and Dover Bay Secondary, the White Rapids’ travelled over to the Mainland from Nanaimo as a group for the two-day meet.

“It was a great weekend in Richmond with several White Rapids achieving personal bests and placing well in an extremely competitive meet,” said Coach Byron Trajan. “The weekend provided an opportunity for swimmers to get up and race in an exciting environment.”

Highlights from the meet included a six second best time from Quinn Todd in the 100 IM, the NDSS 4X100 Freestyle relay team of Nora Loyst, Ianna Folkes, Kara Lindsay and Breanna Kossey placing 4th after knocking close to nineteen seconds off their Island Zone Championships time, and an impressive swim by the Dover Bay Mixed 4X50 Medley Relay team composed of Andrew MacLeod, Delaney O’Toole, David MacLeod and Nyree McGonigle. McGonigle anchored the team with a 50 freestyle lifetime best performance.

BC High School Swimming Provincials are categorized into sections much like ‘S’ Category swimmer’s and ‘O’ Category swimmer’s are in BCSSA. ‘A’ section is composed of year round swimmers competing and training with a winter club. ‘B’ section is composed of summer swimming athletes or individuals that do not train year round. Swimmers compete against individuals from grades 8-12 in each section, making it a tremendous accomplishment for so many of our NWSRC athletes to reach the Provincial Championships.

The Canada West Conference Championships are taking place this weekend in beautiful Lethbridge, Alberta. White Rapids’ alumni Richard Bourgeois and Taylor Snowden-Richardson will be competing for the UVic Vikes.
